When Inspiration Strikes

As any parent of small children will tell you, when inspiration strikes, you gotta move on it OR ELSE

So when I saw this post from Angry Chicken, Ellis was out and Georgia
was sleeping for the first time in weeks on her own in bed. I seized
that inspiration and ran with it.

Literally.  I ran out into the garden and grabbed some paint left over from painting Ellis' ikea
table. I also had a big sheet of plywood that we inherited with the
house that had been laying across the roof of the shed. A couple of coats of paint later and we have a 7 foot long outdoor chalkboard.
Of course we LOVE it.

Ellis loves to write with wet chalk, as my upstairs windows will tell you. But its messy, so this is the perfect solution. The spray bottle was a BIG hit and we did all eventually get a shower.

Fun, easy and cheap…my 3 favourite things!

  • what a fabulous idea! We’ve got leftover blackboard paint from doing a wall in the kitchen but I never thought about doing it outside, we’ve got a perfect plastered wall!

  • Oh that one worked!! I too saw this, but am not as quick of the mark as you, as I dont have any spare wood, but we did paint the play house with blackboard paint last summer – tis on my list once I find wood

  • We have some blackboard paint on the side of our house for just this. Haven’t worked out how to clean it properly yet but Bruno loves to draw on the house – he thinks its ever so slightly naughty!

Just to let you know you can also get magnetic paint as an undercoat and then paint blackboard paint over the top (in various colours). Makes for a great notice board. Ours is about 5ft by 6ft and every time kids come round they spend most of their time on it

  • Love this idea…fingers crossed my 3yr olds art-work will remain on the outside wall now instead of my newly hung wallpaper!
